COACHABLE MOMENT – Your Job Search

Scrabble letters with the word Job Search in the middle in white letters, on a wooden background.

Any job search is like a sales process – you are selling your time for their money.  It’s transactional.  Think of the job search in this way to keep a healthier perspective when you struggle.  A “no” is just part of the process and you will typically go through a lot of “no” answers to get to a YES.

Companies will ghost you (won’t call back when they say they will or leave you hanging) and that is part of the process.  Every salesperson has been told by a potential client that “we will purchase your product/service next week” or “we’ll call you back next month after our new budget is in place” and never hears back and gets zero response to their follow-up calls and emails.

Simply put, a job search takes time.  You will undoubtedly send out lots of resumes.  Then, you will certainly have several interviews before you get the “yes” that is right for you.

If you can keep a proper outlook on your job search, it will be less stressful, and you will keep your “foot on the pedal” until you have a new job.  That consistent momentum in your search means a faster result.

See the job search for what it is, a sale.  Then, assume that sale will mean a lot of “no” answers from the beginning.  It will make your job search more fruitful and that “yes” so much sweeter!
